Why I Am Doing This
This blog exists only to expose the known fraudster, Peter Popoff.
It is my hope that people will use this blog as a resource to expose the scams perpetrated by Peter Popoff to their friends and family.
Ultimately, I want Peter Popoff evicted from every television station in the world and relegated to the obscurity he so richly deserves.
I understand why people flock to Popoff, now and back in his heyday. Since we don’t have free, universal healthcare in the United States, many of our poorer citizens have to live with chronic illnesses that devour most of their income. When somebody comes along, offering to end their suffering, many people will jump just at the chance that their suffering will end.
A lot of people believe in God and they want God to touch their lives in a direct way and there is no more direct way than for God to perform some miraculous healing on them. People want God to heal them and to stop the pain. Some people are so desperate that they will latch-onto any preacher who comes their way claiming to have a direct link with the Almighty.
I’ve had my moments when I wanted a miracle. I wanted God to save my mother from cancer. I wanted God to save me from financial problems I was having. I prayed and hoped, but my mother still died. I called-out to God, but my financial problems continued.
God didn’t step-in and save my mother. If some preacher like Popoff had come to me at either point, I might have hoped for the best and did whatever he told me to do. It was that bad. I would have done anything to save my mother’s life. But, Mom had Stage Four ovarian cancer and there was nothing medical science could do for her and God seemed to be absent that day.
I don’t think I’m the only one who has been desperate to save a loved one’s life. I’m not the only one who has lived with chronic physical pain. I know that there are many people out there just like me and those are the people Popoff preys upon.
When you have more money going out than coming in, you can get desperate for help, any help, and if it comes from Almighty God, then so much the better. If God can create the Universe in six days, he can fix my financial problems with no problem. At least, that’s the theory.
The true mastery Popoff displays is that he doesn’t ask for what most people would consider to be a lot of money all at once. Seventeen dollars is the lowest amount I’ve heard of him asking for and $50 is the largest. That’s really not a lot, when you consider how much other scammers have asked for. Nigerian scammers ask for hundreds or thousands of dollars at a shot, far beyond the reach of most people. But, when you ask for less than twenty dollars, it doesn’t seem like so much and it doesn’t seem like a scam. But, when you’re asking hundreds of people for $17 to $50 at a time, it adds-up. In Popoff’s case, it adds-up to millions of dollars every year.
I have to give my grudging admiration for the bastard. I really do. Don’t ask for too much at a time, but ask for a little bit from thousands of people and you can do pretty well for yourself, can’t you?
Yeah, I know that Popoff’s people will eventually find this blog. But, I don’t care.
I also have to admit that Peter Popoff and his friends have me beat by sheer financial muscle. In a legal contest between income levels, Popoff could outspend me by millions of dollars and we both know that.
My only advantage is that I am right and I have – we all have – documented proof of Popoff’s past misdeeds and we have media coverage of recent accusations of Popoff’s misdeeds.
I can also find friends more easily. Few people would want to be associated with a known fraudster, like Popoff is known to be and I can easily and factually point the finger at him and his cronies for their exploitation of the gullible, the fearful and the desperate.
Yes, Peter, it’s you and your friends against me and whatever friends I can find.
I’m already poor, so it’s something I am accustomed to, while you, on the other hand, have much to lose if I win. If you are evicted from the airwaves, your income will dry-up and rich people don’t like to become poor, do they? Sure, you can rely on Kelly Media to generate income. But, I wonder how KMG would do without Peter Popoff Ministries to help them gather names and addresses for their mailing lists.
This blog may be a humble beginning. But, all large movements had small starts. Even Jesus started with only a handful of disciples, didn’t he?
I would like to dedicate this blog to two people whom I admire very much.
Johnny Carson, the All-Time King of Late Night Talk Shows. It was on the “Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” that James Randi revealed Peter Popoff for the lying scumbag that he was. By having James Randi on his show that night, Johnny likely saved many people from being swindled by Popoff.
Hunter S. Thompson, the Father of Gonzo Journalism. In his own style, Hunter always told us the Truth and he did it without apology. Wild and crazy as he was, he never lied to us and he spoke Truth to Power.
The world is a better place for having them among us and they are sorely missed.
You can send information my way, ask me questions, make suggestions for the blog, etc.
I am not perfect and neither is this blog. If you have an idea to make this blog more effective, just let me know.
